Leveraging AI Tools for Your Job Search

AI is everywhere and it can be a bit overwhelming to keep up. There are so many new tools everywhere for everything!

I've been researching AI tools to help you in your job search. I share a few of them below.

It's worth letting the robots help you while you're job searching, but there are good ways and bad ways to leverage AI.

For example, creating a resume via AI and not adding your human touch to it is no bueno at this point.

The bots are good (and getting better all the time), but they aren't good enough yet that you can simply use what they spit out.

But there are ways to make life and your job search a bit easier using AI.

Let's get into it.

As with most things, AI is transforming the way job seekers navigate their job search and careers.

It can be most helpful in saving you time and getting your creative juices flowing.

Here are the main ways how I suggest you use AI in your job search:

  • Draft your resume (and cover letter if you do those)

    • Use AI tools to analyze job descriptions and suggest tailored keywords and phrases to optimize your resume

  • Interview prep

    • Use AI tools to analyze your responses and provide personalized feedback

  • Market research

    • Use AI tools to aggregate data from various sources to provide real-time insights into companies

If you want to get fancy you can also have AI help you network at scale, apply to jobs for you, and recommend jobs to you.

But I'm not sure how much the latter moves the needle in your job search outcomes right now.

The biggest key to using AI in your job search (and in general) is knowing how to effectively interact with these tools.

Prompting is a legit skill to build. I even think it will be a major in college or a whole career at some point.

If you don't do anything except learn to improve the sophistication of your prompts, you will be ahead of the game as AI sweeps the nation and infiltrates every career sector.

Experiment with different prompts and questions and practice regularly.

Anywho, back to how AI job search tools.
