You Probably Aren’t Applying to Enough Jobs

We are in that reflective and goal setting time of year. You ready to crush 2022?

If you are actively job hunting, this week is a great time to get back at it before January starts.

My clients have interviews booked this week and in early Jan., and they are not slowing down. It's giving them a leg up on others who stopped their job search this time of year.

One of my clients even signed an offer last week right before the xmas holiday and she did it in 30 days. Wuuut, yes!💪🏾

Tbh, it's a myth that companies slow down hiring this time of year. In fact the opposite is true, companies are hustling to make hires before EOY and in January.

So if you want more interviews and a new job in the new year, put in the werk now.

Maybe you are thinking, "I'll wait until January when new jobs are posted" or "I’ve applied to every role under the sun already and there are no more jobs to apply to!

My homies - You haven't run out of jobs, you've likely run out of steam.

You may think you’ve found every job there is but, trust, you haven’t, because new jobs are posted every day and there will always be more.

There are more job boards than ever before and the major job boards like LinkedIn, Indeed, and Glassdoor only represent a fraction of the jobs out there. Facts.

The key is to become a RESEARCH MACHINE and learn to look for relevant positions everywhere on the interwebs.

Ideally, you are also tapping into the hidden job market to uncover roles through your professional connections and network.

Pro Tip: Don't self-reject when you read job descriptions. That will guarantee you won't get the job. Remember job descriptions are a wish list

Here is a little secret, most job seekers aren’t applying to enough jobs, amongst using other ineffective job search methods.

Applying to more jobs is one of the easiest parts of the process that you can control.

Your goal should be to apply to at least 30 positions per week. If you've been following me, you know I'm a broken record about this number.

If you can apply to more, even better.

Quick side note: A recruiter friend once told me he thinks if you aren't reaching out to at least 50 people per week, you're not really trying hard enough in your job search. 👀

He also outsourced his prospecting activities to a VA, which I loved as a time-saving strategy. He followed his own advice and was able to get a job offer in 21 days. Boom.

So yea, I'm not even the most hardcore coach out here in these job search streets. 30 jobs per week is just a minimum.

My main point is this:

  1. Focus on the things you can control in your job search.

  2. Stay in the game and have a growth mindset. Focus on the right actions in your job search.

  3. Increase your volume of jobs and have a strategy in place.

Definitely make sure you are prospecting as part of your process. Don't just blindly apply online and wait for a response. That is a death sentence. 💀

Try to get less attached to the company and job description and just apply, remember, your goal is to get into more interviews!

Rejection will still happen while job searching, it's part of the game. But rejections feels different if you have 6 more interviews in your pipeline.

Keep digging and searching for new roles. They are out there but you must look where others are not looking as much.

You can do it!
