Are you the most qualified person not getting the offer?
Here is the truth:
The offer goes to the person who can tell the best story about how you will solve the companies probelms.
Not the most "qualified" candidate, but the best storyteller and communicator.
And it all starts with how you answer the very first question of every single interview: "Tell me about yourself."
Your answer to this question sets the tone for the rest of the interview.
It sounds simple, but a lot of candidates fumble and lose in the first 90 seconds.
The key to structuring a strong answer is to remember that this question is actually three questions hiding in one.
1. Who are you?
2. What's on your resume?
3. What are you looking for next?
You answer all three by walking through your resume chronologically, past to present, spending the most time on whatever's most relevant to the role you want.
Say why you made each move, not just what you did. Then close with what's next, clearly. Most people skip that last part completely.
Time it. 60 to 90 seconds. Two minutes max. If you're going longer, you've lost them.
If you want to build your own answer live with me and get real feedback on it, that's exactly what we do in my coaching sessions.
